Catholic Community of Waukesha

Liturgical Ministers

Ministry of the Reader (Lector)

This ministry is for parishioners who perceive a call to serve the Church by proclaiming God's Word. It is essential to develop the skills required to communicate God's message competently. During the training sessions, several elements will be addressed, such as preparing and understanding the characteristics of public reading, examining voice quality, volume, diction, pacing, pausing and eye contact.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Minister)

This ministry is for parishioners who perceive a call to serve the Church as a special minister of Holy Communion. You serve God's people by sharing the Body and Blood of Christ with the faithful assembly at Mass. In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must be fully initiated members of the Church; that is, they must have received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and holy communion.

Ministry of Hospitality (Usher)

The Minister of Hospitality is the first official representative of the community that worshipers meet. One important quality for a Minister of Hospitality is to be a people-oriented person able to convey the sense that each person is welcome and essential to our community’s prayer. Responsibilities include greeting fellow parishioners during scheduled Mass times, aiding parishioners in locating a place to sit, selecting a family or individual to be gift bearers at Presentation time, assisting with taking up the collection and handing out the bulletin and wishing parishioners a pleasant day as they depart.

Ministry of Liturgical Music

Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance. Its function weds sacred text to enable the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith. Music imparts a sense of unity and sets the appropriate tone for communal celebrations of faith, including funerals and the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, penance, anointing and matrimony.

Several options are available to participate:

  • Adult Choir: Sings at one Mass per weekend, rotating between the 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. Masses from September through May. Rehearsals are Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.
  • Resurrection Choir: Sings at our parish Masses of Christian Burial. There are no rehearsals. Attendance is voluntary, according to your personal schedule.
  • Instrumentalists: Are needed throughout the year as complementary musicians to enhance the overall liturgical music experience. Musical ability must be intermediate to advanced level.
Ministry of the Altar Server

Boys and girls in Grade 5 and above are encouraged to minister at God's altar by assisting the priest during the Mass. Training sessions are offered periodically during the year for this ministry.
