Human Concerns

Thank you for visiting the web page for the Human Concerns Committee of the Catholic Faith Community of St. William.
Our Mission Statement
The Human Concerns Committee of St. William is rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the rich tradition of Catholic Social Teaching. It exists to spark parishioners to respond to Christ's call to serve and foster an awareness of local and global opportunities to promote social justice.
The Church has always seen action, on behalf of justice, an essential part of her mission. In Justice in the World the Bishops stated that "Action on behalf of justice and participation in the transformation of the world fully appears to us as a constitutive dimension of the preaching of the Gospel..."
The Human Concerns committee tries to make this statement real. We do so in four ways. They are:
Direct Service
The first responsibility of this group is to provide immediate service to those who are in need. This means that first and foremost the committee must be aware of the needs. Then we communicate those needs to our parish to mobilize you to respond.
Advocacy means that we speak on behalf of those in need. Our task is to let others know that the needs of the poor are real.
Empowerment helps others make changes and productive decisions for themselves.
Justice Education
We look at why the problems exist and examine possible ways to end the root causes.
Please check out the additional links found under Human Concerns for ways to get involved, serve others and work to build God's reign of justice and peace.
