Catholic Community of Waukesha

Parish Nurse

The role of our parish nurse is to work with the pastoral staff and faith community to help give our parish community a connection to their faith during difficult health related periods in their lives. Some of the roles include the following:

  • Visit homebound parishioners or those in health care facilities, or arrange a volunteer parishioner to visit and bring Prayer and Eucharist
  • Health Educator
  • Health Advocate
  • Referral Agent
  • Integrator of faith and health to encourage mind, body, and spirit to work together in healing

Spiritual health is central to physical and mental health and influences a person's entire being. A person can feel well and content in the presence of disease and healing can exist in the absence of a cure.

Another aspect of the Parish Nurse Role is to encourage our parish communities to live a healthy lifestyle.  This can be done by planning classes and events, bulletin notes, and providing materials that encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Blood Pressure Screenings are available periodically after Masses and are provided by the Parish Nurse and volunteers. You can call the Parish Nurse or check the bulletin and announcements to verify dates and times.

The teachings of the Catholic Faith include the Corporal Works of Mercy, which include Visit the Sick. The role of the Parish Nurse ensures that we, as a Faith Community, act on this.
